Likely a familiar face to many of our customers in the Snohomish area, Josh grew up in the valley and we are thrilled to have him as part of the United Recycling & Container team of drivers. Prior to working here, Josh bucked and delivered hay for a local feed store. He knows his way around (we deliver containers to all sorts of locations around the Greater Seattle area) so this is very helpful, plus he often sees people he knows on customer job sites!
What does a typical day look like?
Lots of driving! Depending on how far away the pick-up and drop-off locations are from our facility in Snohomish, Josh may make between 4 and 8 trips each day. For example, in one morning he may go to downtown Seattle to swap a container for commercial construction project, pick-up a full container in Mill Creek from a re-roofing project and haul recycled concrete to a residential home project in Lynnwood (in a container), then leave the container there for them to fill with construction debris. Or, if he is dedicated to hauling materials for one project, he may drive circles from Snohomish to Bellevue and back all day long!
The best part of his job?
When we asked Josh what he likes best about driving for United Recycling & Container, he said he enjoys being out and about in the community and the freedom to be outside.
Hay truck to hook truck
Josh explained that the transition from driving hay trucks to hook trucks was fairly easy because he had great teachers (experienced co-workers) who shared their knowledge and tips for working with the containers. He said he listened very closely and always remembers that when loading and unloading the containers, the container is in charge! Meaning, driving the Kenworth truck is easy – depending on the conditions (grade, stability of the ground, overhead wires, the amount of space to maneuver, etc.) loading and unloading the containers takes patience and experience.
Working with Josh
According to our dispatcher, “Josh is easy to get along with and happy to help in whatever way he can to make sure our customers are satisfied. I have received numerous comments from customers who commend him for his attention to detail (for placing the container precisely) and for operating in a safe manner.“
When Josh is not driving a hook truck, he enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 kids, helping his son with Cub Scouts and to learn to wrestle, as well as hunting deer, elk and bear. Next time you see Josh arriving in a hook truck at your job site, say hello and ask him how many bears he has got in his lifetime!
